Southend Carnival 2016

22nd August 2016

As we expand, one thing we cherish is being able to continue supporting our local community and the Southend Carnival is just one event we love being involved with each year! 2016 not only saw Rossi Ice Cream become one of the Carnival sponsors for the 6th year running, but it was the year Rossi Bear became the official Carnival King, appearing in the parade in front of over 20,000 people.

Rossi Bear has been a great supporter of the Carnival over the years, even going out of his way to help launch the 2nd Carnival Beer festival this August in Leigh-on-Sea (unsurprisingly he was a bear with a sore head the next morning!). As a result of the huge success of the Carnival’s Teddy Bears Picnic with Rossi Bear last year, this year saw two sessions taking place on the day in Priory Park. The British summer was most definitely on our side, with the sun out in all its glory adding to the fantastic atmosphere and fun had by the several hundred who attended throughout the day.

On the evening of the Carnival, the weather wasn’t so well behaved with heavy winds hitting the coast but did that stop crowds of thousands making their way to the seafront? Of course not!

We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved on the evening who supported the Rossi float and making the night so memorable for our very own Carnival King. Radio Essex for providing the perfect party soundtrack, helping us all stay warm against the winds as we danced through the streets. The incredible fundraisers from Southend Relay for Life and Cancer Research that helped to raise over £700, nearly £100 more than last year! And of course the amazing public, who faced gale force winds to support the carnival and everyone taking part.

We’re already looking forward to next year. (Fingers crossed the sun will be shining!)
